Joseph Amon
 

Joseph Amon is the director of the health and human rights division at Human Rights Watch.

Based in New York City, Joe joined Human Rights Watch in 2005 as the head of its HIV/AIDS program. Since then he has worked on a wide range of issues, including:

  • Access to medicines;
  • The impact of discrimination on access to care and treatment;
  • Censorship and the denial of health information;
  • Arbitrary detention; and
  • The role of civil society in the response to infectious disease outbreaks and environmental health threats.

Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Joe worked for more than 15 years conducting research, designing programs, and evaluating public health interventions.

He is an associate in the department of epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University and a lecturer in public and international affairs at Princeton University.
