Ricky Gunawan

Ricky Gunawan is the Asia Program Officer of the Global Drug Policy Program, at the Open Society Foundations, overseeing the program’s Asia portfolio.

Ricky is an Indonesian human rights lawyer with more than 12 years of experience in advocacy, strategic litigation, legal empowerment, and campaigns. Prior to joining Open Society, Ricky co-founded and is former Director of Community Legal Aid Institute (LBHM), based in Jakarta. He was also a lecturer at Atmajaya Catholic University and Jentera Law School.

In 2017, Ricky won the British Council Award for Social Impact in Indonesia, recognizing his exceptional contribution and commitment to creating positive social change and improving lives. In 2019, he was a Global Justice Fellow at the Center for Criminology, University of Oxford. Ricky earned his law degree from the University of Indonesia, and holds an MA in Theory and Practice of Human Rights, from the University of Essex.
